How to Connect a Mac Book to a TV Monitor

If you want to extend your MacBook display to a TV in order to use it as a monitor, you must use the MacBook’s DVI jack. MacBooks, if they have an external display jack, will feature a Micro DVI or DVI jack, depending on model. This can then be connected to your TV. If you do not have a DVI port on your TV, you will need a DVI to S-Video converter cable.

Instructions

    1

Connect a DVI cable from your MacBook to your TV. If you have an HD TV, you can connect the DVI to it. If you do not have an HD TV, you will need an S Video DVI converter cable to connect the to the back of the TV.

    2

    Switch your TV on.

    3

Click the “Apple” button on the task bar, then click “System Preferences.”

    4

Click “Displays.” The TV should automatically appear. If not, click “Detect.” The detect function will check the external display for a connection. The second monitor will then appear in the dialog window.

    5

Set the resolution for your TV.
