How to Flash a Gt5056 BIOS

Your Gateway Gt5056 desktop computer utilizes the BIOS to run through a series of system checks each time the computer is powered on. The original BIOS that came with the computer isn’t always capable of handling every new hardware device, so if you install new components it may also be necessary to update the BIOS. In order to flash the current BIOS to the latest version, you only need to run an update file provided by Gateway.

Instructions

    1

Power off the Gateway Gt5056 computer and then immediately power it back on. Wait for the system information splash screen to appear during the boot process.

    2

Note the string of numbers and letters listed after the “BIOS” heading at the top of the screen. Access the Gateway drivers and downloads page (see Resources) after the Gt5056 finishes restarting.

    3

Select the “Product Type” drop-down menu and choose “Desktop Computers (All Models).” Click the “Product Model” menu and select the “Gateway Gt5056” option.

    4

Click the “Select Your Operating System” drop-down menu and choose the operating system currently installed on your Gt5056 computer. Click the “Select a File Type” menu and choose “BIOS.”

    5

Select “Display Results.” Check through the list of available Gateway BIOS files and click the download link for the most recent version.

    6

Double-click the BIOS update file when it finishes downloading. Follow the onscreen installation prompts and then restart the Gt5056 computer.

    7

Press “F2” repeatedly until the Gt5056’s BIOS menu pops up on the screen. Press “F7” to load the new BIOS file’s default values. Press “F10” to save the new BIOS values and restart the Gateway computer.
